This is a holiday that holds special meaning for us at Good Shepherd. We spend so much of our time helping mothers: guiding new moms as they adjust to their role while they stay with us in the maternity shelter, assisting foster care moms as they provide a loving home to children under unique circumstances, being there for moms who need a little extra help through our pregnancy and parenting support program.
This week, I got to see our mission lived out in a tangible way as we held an entrustment ceremony at our offices. These ceremonies are when every part of the adoption triad – the birth family, the adoptive family, and the baby – comes together to celebrate the trust and love that surrounds this child.
This particular ceremony was in the chapel of our offices and attended by several of our staff members. There was a blessing for the birth mom, a blessing for the new family, and a blessing on the infant, and it reminded me of my own experience when my husband and I welcomed our sons. How thankful I am for their birth mothers. How much I carry them in my heart.
I think Good Shepherd is a special place because our mission really is alive in our walls. We are one body but many parts, all working together to connect children with families and keep families connected.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
