It’s the little things…

As you may know, we’ve officially launched our Treatment Foster Care (TFC) Program.  What you may not know is that one of our long time Maternity staffers, Maria Holmes, is now our Lead Treatment Foster Parent and will be accepting her first placement this month.  One recent story will aptly explain why we are so delighted to have her in this role (and why we will miss her in Maternity).

Maria learned that she will be caring for two sisters; she also learned that the sister’s mother is deceased and had a birthday coming up.  Despite having only met the girls briefly during pre-placement visits, Maria successfully advocated to pick up the girls and their older sister.  She took them back to her home where there was a beautiful birthday cake waiting.  She wanted the girls to be able to celebrate their mother’s birthday together. For Maria, this wasn’t any sort of big deal. She simply knew that if she didn’t make it happen, it wouldn’t happen.  She felt like it was something the girls needed and deserved.

That sort of caring is precisely what we hope will help define our Treatment Foster Care Program.  Thank you, Maria, for being who you are and for being a shining example of our mission and ministry.

God bless,

Michael P. Meehan, Ph.D.
