November 9, 2015

Last week, I was able to meet a lovely couple who was celebrating the placement of their adopted son in what will very soon be the Ave Maria Chapel at Good Shepherd.  There was something particularly poignant about meeting them, along with their beautiful baby boy, in this increasingly holy space.  I was mindful of St. Gerard Majella, Patron Saint of Expectant Mothers, who is depicted in one of our new stained glass windows.  This couple had been no less expectant than my wife and I when we awaited the births of our children.  Full of joy, hope and anxiety, they (like us) have undoubtedly begun dreaming about their son’s future.  Like us, they were already making sacrifices for the sake of parenthood.  They will know the same joys, as well as the inevitable sorrows that go along with being a parent, and their journey has been no less miraculous.  After all, God has chosen them for one another.  I am deeply grateful that Good Shepherd was able to play a role in making their hopes for parenthood a reality.

November is National Adoption Month.  Please pray for all expectant parents, but this month, pray especially for those awaiting the gift of adoption.

God bless,

Michael
